Meshuggah - Bleed (guitar cover)
Been meaning to do this for a while now. So, as is obligatory with every 8-string player, here's a guitar cover of Bleed by Meshuggah. Better late then never! There are a couple of slip ups, but hey, it's Meshuggah! Not everyone is Fredrik Thordendal.

Periphery II is undoubtedly my favourite album of 2012, and this track which I've covered, is my personal favourite track off of the album. A few minor mistakes and the part before "Scald the inside" isn't as tight as I'd like it, but you'll get the idea. Really tightly played and awesome tone! I like the red pickups too. Just started learning this song 2 days ago and this seems more accurate than some other covers i've seen. Great job.
My friend is letting me borrow it this morning. He put mishas signature bare knuckles in so let’s see how that goes 🙏
Whole crowd: "FUCK"
Do you have tabs for this?!?
Misha playing that Blackmachine live is so wild to see, and does anybody know what neck pickup he's using? It sounds so similar to the Air Norton, nice and articulate in the mids, and it holds that really damn nice slappiness to the upper register
Yeah I can’t believe he took it on tour!!
Fucking awesome song!!!!
I have an s621qm how much different would it feel to its 6 string counterpart?
With it being an 8 string, it feels a lot different to a 6, with there being a longer scale and the extra 2 strings. I'd recommend trying out an 8 string first before you buy one just to gauge how one feels for you.
personally it would've been better with the solo but seeing how hard it is you're fine the way you are
Very fucking nice dude
that one guy in the beginning saying "eat shit" on have a blast then "y'all suck" for this one jesus, hope that dude got destroyed after that show lol
"look at his sparkling guitar, looks like a five year old little girl"
Maaaaan 0:31 is just perfect hahaha
Hey I know this is super old but do thicker gauge strings fit in the tuning peg holes? I know I've encountered some guitars where that was surprisingly a problem. I'm thinking 74 gauge on the low E, do you think that would work? Thanks! And nice vid! :)
Which guitarist is playing the opening riff?
does this s8 fits to the m20sibanez hardcase? newbie here, sorry for asking?
I don't think it is to be honest. You'd be better off looking at either the W101RG or the MP100C.

thnx
its been 6 years yet no redux video......;-;
Sick tone!
Bla bla bla .....
one of the worst reviews that i ever seen
very nice!
Holy FFFFF-!! That tone!
so tight
Michael Baddeley what did you end up changing your pickups to? i have this same guitar but in the grey. i changed mine out to seymour duncan nazgul 8 and sentient 8... the nazgul is really really hot for a passive (they also have an active version) and my sentient sits really low for some reason... just curious as to what you went with and how it sounds
I've not actually changed them yet, but I will be changing them for BKP Aftermaths, as I feel they compliment my tone best, and have the percussive character I'm looking for, without it being too hot.
Haha, It's Mike Malyan on the drums...
how do you know that man?
Jared Herz Just by looking, I recognised him straight away.
oh ok, gotcha
Jared Herz Sorry I should explain: You get a brief glimpse of him at the beginning and he often stands in for Matt. I could still be wrong... But check out some of Mike's videos (his band's called Monuments). Especially the jam Matt and Mike have playing 'Icarus Lives'.
cool thanks man, i think i saw what you saw greatness!
I really love Misha and his guitar playing, but i really want him to grow some hair so he can headbang properly.
What’s with Nolly. Do you want him to grow some hair too?
Boy have I got some news for you
Great footage, but lol at the crowd trying to clap in time
Is that a 7??? Only seeing 7 strings there dude~ O: wats the tuning u usued? Drop E? F or A....
Bb Standard.
Michael Baddeley thanks dood! Givin me hope that maybe i can actually nit fail if i keep practicing lol
Nice
One of the best live bands by far!
Best song on the album IMO
Thanks for reminding me I suck at guitar
did you need to reconfigure your guitar to fit your bareknuckle pickups? i took mine to a shop and theyre telling me id have to get my guitar reshaped to fit my bk aftermath neck pickup for my seven string
Mine went straight in, and I did mine myself. Have your pickups got covers?
nope.
Jake on back vocals. HAHAHAHAHA, awesome.
awesome sound for such a cheap guitar
i can only find it in grey. where did you find that one?
I actually can't remember where I got it from... It was a UK based retailer though (as I'm from England). Type it in on Google, you should get some results. Remember to use the TRB at the end as well, narrow down your options.
Yes Its an awsome song check out my drum track for it in this link The Demons Name Is Surveillance Drum Track Fl Studio Version
this song was pretty nice, good luck with your band dude :D
Was this purely to insult me? The tone might not shine through as well, as the audio was recorded with the camera. Not the best mic to demonstrate with, granted. Still, no need for hateful comments like that mate.
great tone, much better than the rga one has.even captured with camera mic ;)
can you send me the tabs of this song? thx
I don't have any, I learned this by ear. There should be some floating around on the internet.
Michael Baddeley thx. nice video ^^
Would you recommend the S series over the RG? I'm a little worried about th less tone factor with the S.
I like both, depends on what you're looking for in terms of feel. The S series are more ergonomic, and are more comfortable to play, yet the RG feels more like a guitar than the S does. With the RG series having thicker and heavier bodies, they have better balance when you play standing up. either way, I recommend either. Always try before you buy as well.
FUCKING AWESOME
nice job man you can really feel the extra distance for strumming those 8 strings ae haha
hey Michael I see that your one of the very few dying specesof youtubers that reply to subsrcibers so i must ask you this do you have the tab for this song? also can i have your email adress to talk to you casually about the guitar and also song for begginers on 8 strings if its too much to ask I would just really appreciate the tab for this song its so beautiful like some of absent distances work loved the review aswell onthe s8qm-trb the review led me to buying one :) thanks Michael good luck with the job aswell
I don't unfortunately, I learned this by ear.
Michael Baddeley dont worry there is a tab on u.g anyway i recently got my s8qm-trb and i love it i am considering dimarzio ionizers and d activators what do you reccomend
blackjackmcgack Depends on what kind of sound you're looking for. I'm looking to put some Bare Knuckle Aftermaths in mine, for "djent" tones. D-activators are decent, Can't say much about Ionisers, or even signature pick-ups in general, as I tend to stray away from signature stuff. Seymour Duncan's new range is good from what I've heard, but not sure if they'd fit. Just have a browse on RUclips to see what suits your needs.
i was thinking a seymour duncan nazgul (for the bridge obiously) and an ionizer in the neck but have you noticed if you switch the s8 pickups to the neck there is a lovley tone
25.5 is fine for an 8 string as long as you use a higher gauge. Example: On my SC208, which was my first 8 string . . I have it strung with Ernie Ball Slinky 8's, their F# is a 0.74 and this works fine and has good tension, whereas you wouldnt use that set on a 27" scale guitar unless you liked heavier gauge strings. The differences in scale length arent really about string tension though, its about intonation.
What I should have said in the video is "in my opinion 25.5" doesn't work". Yes, you need a thicker gauge for it to be workable with, and some players prefer that scale. Playing a 25.5" 8 string just feels really weird to me. Having a neck that wide with a 25.5" length feels out of balance for me.
Not yet, purely as I've not had the funds to do so yet. But with me getting a new job, that should be sorted by next year, hopefully.
Not as floppy as you'd think to be fair. For what I do with my band, I tune the lowest string to G, which is spot on for what I'm looking for. For F# it is a little loose but it's workable, it more of a case of not being too aggressive with the picking.
Because you're racist...
Why am I not surprised?
Did you end up changing the pups in this? I've been thinking about getting one for a while, but I've been put off a bit when taking into account what the pups look like.
0.65!!! jesus christ that must be flappy as hell. I've got a first year Omen 8 (also 26.5) and I use an 0.80 for F# for a slightly tight string
